Towards the end of 2018 I was commissioned to photograph an office refurbishment on behalf of high-street retailer WHSmiths of their London HQ. The company had recently moved into a prestigious office development in the heart of The City and taken an entire floor of office space to service their international businesses. Office staff and management were imminently moving into their space with a matter of days and IT suppliers were keen to start cabling up computers and telephone systems as soon a possible. Desks and power banks had already been installed and the office interiors and supplies company were keen for me to photograph their desks, chairs and booths in-situ before they became busy with computer monitors, keyboards and writing pads of staff. The window of photographic opportunity was slim. Upon arrival, before unpacking cameras, tripods and lighting, I decided the best areas to photograph, showing the scale of the refurbishment and the number of products supplied. Then I set about tidying and dressing the areas to be photographed, paying special attention to chair heights, angles, ensuring cables were as hidden as possible and monitor arms were tidy and folded together. With everything in place and tidy, only then did I go about photographing the space from creative angles and showcasing the products and design of the interior.
